The Mind of an Anorexic

The objective of this project is to be able to help and understand this [aspect of the disease] and try to make a difference not only for those suffering from anorexia, but also for other people who might suffer
with this disorder down the road and along with them for their family and friends as they do not want people to feel sympathy for them but rather feel empathy.

I have researched to understand the emotional reason behind why they are going through such sufferings, and focused on the content which is powerful and impactful, compelling the readers to continue reading and holding onto the book during their tough times.

The content is based on true stories written by Joss Rossiter (Author of) ‘This too Shall Pass’ and Anaïs Chartschenko (Author of) ‘The Weightless One’.  The book is about  the step by step recovery process of an anorexic girl who is trying to get through her sufferings and also documents the emotional recovery process. The book will be a  source of strength for the anorexic which can carry around with them.

The aim of this project is to produce a creative book in a visual format  focusing on typography and layout design. The illustrations  were done in collaboration with Shafina Finella. This book provides an an insight into the mind of an anorexic allowing us to experience their thoughts and feelings which allows us to understand them better. The illustrations and typography play a very important role in the book because it creates an emotional impact on the readers compels them to continue reading the book.
I have also designed a website which is step by step recovery guide for them to be guided through the diet plans which is important for them to follow through because once you are in the process of recovery, you will need a
proper diet plan. There is also an explanation of the stages of change that they go through the recovery
process and there is art therapy that will help them express and understand throughout the recovery
process by presenting the message creatively through a combination of art and writing and to draw your
intangible thoughts and emotions.
